Simone Merlin is a Principal Systems Engineer/Manager at Qualcomm Technologies Inc., Wireless R&D.
His current focus is on improving user experience for Extended Reality and Distributed Compute applications over wireless, working on prototyping and 6G system design.
Prior to that, Simone worked on WLAN technologies, leading the design and standardization for the IEEE 802.11ac/ah/ax/bf MAC specifications, prototyping RF Sensing, mobility and interference management solutions. He held leadership roles as Vice Chair of IEEE 802.11ax and Chair of the 802.11ah MAC ad-hoc group.
Simone holds more than 300 patents and has authored several publications in the field of wireless communications.
He earned an MSEE in 2004 and a PhD in 2008 from the University of Padua, Italy, and was a visiting scholar at the University of Illinois at Urbana‑Champaign.
