XR applications require high throughput, low latency, and high reliability from the network to provide a seamless user experience. Meeting these requirements simultaneously in a single communication channel is difficult. Instead, we leverage two channels in parallel, one focusing on low latency and one on high throughput. We are building Biphony, a general-purpose, low-latency multipath transport protocol that leverages these multiple virtual channels. Biphony allows applications to provide easily-available message information to allow it to optimize fine-grained message steering to improve application performance. In this demo, we will show the ILLIXR XR runtime running on multiple paths with fine-grained message steering.
