The IMMERSE Graduate Student Council (IGSC) is a student-led organization at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, operating within the IMMERSE Center for Immersive Computing. Founded to bridge the gap between graduate students and institutional leadership, IGSC fosters a vibrant, interdisciplinary community centered on Technologies, Applications, and Human Experience.
The council's mission rests on three pillars: academic growth through seminars, workshops, and peer collaboration; career development through meaningful connections with faculty, researchers, and industry leaders; and community-building through inclusive events and a strong, engaged student network. In its inaugural semester, IGSC coordinated the IMMERSE Center's Spring 2025 seminar series, defining programming goals alongside center leadership, providing logistics support, and establishing scalable workflows for future events.
Looking ahead, IGSC plans to organize speaker series, hackathons, and a spring symposium, creating multi-format opportunities that maximize value for participants. IGSC welcomes graduate students passionate about immersive technologies, digital humanities, or interdisciplinary design — whether they bring technical expertise, research experience, creative vision, or organizational drive. Through open recruitment each semester, members contribute to event planning, faculty engagement, and the broader growth of the immersive computing community at Illinois.
